2010 Kids’ Fishing Derby

FREE to the first 300 kids who register, the 2010 Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby will take place May 15 at Simmers-Young Park, 5630 West CR 542, behind the Auburndale Speedway.  Registration begins at 7:00 a.m., and fishing starts at 8:00 a.m., ending two hours later with the last weigh-in at 10:15 a.m.  Polk County Parks and Recreation is hosting the very popular event for children ages 4 – 15.  Kids 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and all participants provide their own bait.  Bait will be sold at the event.

In addition to door prizes, an awards presentation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., to honor winners of the Casting and “Big Fish” Contests.  There will also be a prize for the “First Fish Caught.”   Free hot dogs and drinks will be served to all participants 4 – 15 years of age.  Due to limited participation, advance registration is encouraged.  Contact the Recreation Unit at 863.534.4340 or www.polk-county.net.

The 2010 Kids’ Fishing Derby is sponsored by the Polk County Board of County Commissioners, Dominica Recreation Products and GameTime.
