State Senator Paula Dockery attended the first guided hike ot the 2010 Trek Ten Trails season that began with grand opening ceremonies of the new trails at Mackay Gardens in Lake Alfred. Event photos of each of the guided hikes to date are now posted on the Friends of the Parks website for viewing by participating trekkers and and other interested parties at http://www.friendsoftheparks.net/PhotoAlbum.html. Technical difficulties have delayed photo postings of trail hikes at Mackay, Colt Creek State Park, Peace River Hammock, Tiger Creek Preserve, Lake Wales Ridge State Forest, and Lakeland Highlands Scrub. The scheduled guided hike at Lake Kissimmee State Park January 9 was cancelled due to unusually wet and cold temperatures.
SEPTEMBER 18 – NEXT GUIDED HIKE Van Fleet State Trail
Now trekkers will have to wait until the fall for the next “guided” hike although program participants can trek any of the 20 featured trails before the deadline of October 15 to validate just 10 “favorite” hikes with the self-inking stamp found in the geocache hides on each of the trails. Validation game cards are still available at any Polk County Public Library, Outpost 27, and the Lake Wales Depot Museum.
