PARKS EMPLOYEES RECOGNIZED

April 23rd, 2010 4:08 pm | by Friends of the Parks by Glenda Mink

Nine Polk County Parks and Recreation employees were recognized for a combined total of 69 years of loyal and dedicated service to the citizens of Polk County:  (front, then left to right) Tommy Green, Jr., David Pena, Jack Moyer, Tina Reynolds, John McKee and Gundula Williams.   Ron Lewis and Dorinda Seger missed the semi-annual staff meeting held inside the recently restored Homeland Methodist Church, one of five historical buildings of pioneer vintage at the County’s Homeland Heritage Park.

A unique setting for family picnics and community gatherings, as well as a “without walls” classroom for teaching the history of Polk County, Homeland Heritage Park is one of 36 parks, plus 11 mini-parks and 49 boat ramps in the County’s parks system,  Field maintenance workers provide maintenance and operating management services for a total of 2,832 park acres – that’s a lot of area to keep clean and safe for patrons.  For more information about Homeland Heritage Park, or to schedule a group visit, call Recreation Coordinator Gary Hacking at 863.534.3766.
