Just in time for the busy Memorial Day weekend, the public boat ramp on Lake Garfield will re-open Friday, May 28. The popular 664-acre fishing lake in Alturas was closed earlier this year due to the condition of the ramp. Beyond repair, the old ramp was removed and replaced with a new “push’n place” concrete structure, constructed on-site and installed by in-house County parks staff. The site will be cleared of debris in time for the scheduled re-opening, with the planting of trees and beneficial aquatic weeds for fishing breeding and filtering of the lake water to begin next week. Lake Garfield is located east of Bartow in Alturas: From Hwy 60, turn south onto CR 655A (Alturas Road), and then west onto Lake Garfield Landing Road to the lake.
