Bartow’s Juneteenth Celebration

Bartow’s Juneteenth Celebration is a three-day cultural festival takes place June 18-20, at various locations. Juneteenth celebrates freedom for approximately 250,000 slaves held in bondage some two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, the document that put an end to slavery in America. These slaves were in the state of Texas where many people believe the news was delayed so that slave owners could bring in one last crop. The slaves upon hearing this news began a celebration that has become tradition and a legal holiday in the states of Texas and Oklahoma. Juneteenth offers a variety of activities including live music and entertainment, motivational speakers, children’s activities and some of the best food you’ll ever taste.

June 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Fort Blount Park at the Friday Fest.

Other events to be held at Polk Street overpass, Polk Street and Childs Avenue.
