Ryan indicated a dedicated account would be established for all funds raised by FRIENDS FOR PUBLIC LAKES ACCESS to be used exclusively for acquisition of property for public lakes access, improvements to existing public lakes access facilities, and for grant / partnership opportunities to accomplish public lakes access goals.
Ryan noted there are over 500 natural freshwater lakes in Polk County, and only 88 currently have boat ramp access. She further noted that while many existing launching sites are located within county and municipal parks where added amenities support diverse recreational opportunities, the vast majority are within developments where access to publicly own waters has been slowly closed.
Ryan encourages citizens interested in joining the Foundation and serving on the Friends for Public Lakes Access sub-committee to send her an e-mail marianryan@gmail.com or call (863) 293-6961.
