From butterflies to bike rides and beautiful snags to tram tours, Polk’s Nature Discovery Center at the Circle B Bar Reserve, 4399 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland, has something exciting for everyone in September.

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM Discovery Kids

Designed for kids of all ages, please join us for an exciting activity and craft at the Circle B Bar Reserve, parents are asked to attend with their children. Activity is ongoing during the afternoon.

6:15 PM – 9:00 PM Sierra Club Presents— Beautiful Snags

What is a Snag? Is it just a dead tree or could it be a thriving habitat for a diverse group of plants and animals?. Join Jennifer Myers, Conservation Biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and find out the importance of not cutting down dead trees unless they threaten people or property. Find out the different critters that need and use snags. Program starts at 7:15 PM in the Workshop. covered dish dinner at 6:15. Bring a dish to share and your own utensils if you would like to participate. Visitors welcome!

Saturday, September 11

8:30 AM – 9:30 AM Florida Trails Association Bike Ride

Dust off your bike & helmet and join the Heartland Chapter of the Florida Trails Association on a bike ride around the Circle B Bar Reserve. If you would like to ride along all  participants are asked to meet in the parking area in front of the Polk’s Nature Discovery Center.

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Florida Trails Association Meeting & Lunch

Are you interested in learning more about the Florida Trails Association? Come out and sit in on the bi-monthly meeting for the Heartland Chapter of the Florida Trails Association to learn more about their organization and meet the members. Bring a covered dish and stay for lunch after the meeting, noon to 1:00 PM. For more information contact Betty Piper at (863) 293-3053.

Requires sign up. Tour the Banana Creek Marsh with guides who will point out plants, birds and history of the property. Limited to 24 guests.

7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Native Plant Society Presents Butterfly Gardening

Join the Native Plant Society for a presentation by Mrs. Linda Cooper on Butterfly Gardening. Learn how to encourage beautiful butterflies into your own backyard. Come early to bid on native plants during the silent auction and browse through the various books and reading materials that will be available for purchase. Located in the Workshop
