New Boat Ramp for Port Hatchineha
Polk County Parks and Natural Resources crews have done all the patching they can do. From the time the County reopened the former privately-owned operation to public access of Lake Hatchineha and the Kissimmee Chain, heavy use of the boat launch at the popular Port Hatchineha Park and Campground in Haines City has caused deterioration beyond repair. While no time is a good time to close access, concern for safety dictates complete overhaul and installation of a new ramp. The ramp will close to boat traffic May 31 and is scheduled to be closed through June 30.
Normally installation of the pre-stressed concrete system, slated for the Port Hatchineha site, requires 2 to 3 weeks of down time, depending on weather conditions. The copyrighted Tedder Boat Ramp System was selected for its durability and superior structural design in providing quicker and safer launchings. The ramp will also be realigned to better accommodate and provide safer ADA access, which is adding a few extra days of closure.
The park and campground will remain open with fishing from the campground area permitted during construction. The public will be noticed if the ramp is ready for use prior to the anticipated July 1 re-opening.
